Sergeant Steve Sforza submitted a letter of resignation to the Board of Selectmen on September 14, 2021, to accept a position with the Town of Pittsburg, New Hampshire. His last day will be Friday, October 1, 2021. He will be sworn in as Pittsburg’s next Chief of Police in the coming days.

Chief Daniel Wicks voluntarily resigned from the Town of Brentwood on September 21, 2021, effective October 5, 2021. The Board of Selectmen has approved paid time off until that date as requested. The Board of Selectmen regretfully accept both resignations and thank Sergeant Sforza and Chief Wicks for their service to the Town of Brentwood.

In the interim, we will be working closely with our community partners at Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office. We have hired Richard Sawyer, Chief Deputy Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office as Brentwood’s Police Administrator. This will be a temporary assignment for Sawyer for a period up to 6 months. Chief Deputy Sawyer will assist the town in facilitating its search for a new Chief of Police and Sergeant. He has been working diligently with Sergeant Sforza to get the pulse of operations and is ready to oversee the department until a new chief is named. We are working closely with the county and our neighboring towns to ensure there is no interruption in operations and to ensure our residents receive the level of service they are used to.

Sawyer was the Town of Hampton’s emergency management director and has been a police officer for over 30 years. Twenty-five of those years in Hampton where he retired as chief before being appointed as Chief Deputy with Rockingham County.
